Augustana Lutheran Church of Lake Eunice was founded in 1886 by Swedish settlers in the heart of lakes country. The Lake Eunice settlement dates from the early 1870's. Many of the settlers were from Sweden. Among them were several who aspired to be leaders for the Christians as they gathered for services in their homes in those early days. A split soon developed between the conservative Lutherans and more liberal ones who were influenced by the Waldenstromian and other sects in Sweden, resulting in the building of two small churches in the same section, the more liberally inclined on the NW corner, and the conservatives on the SE corner. The church located on the SE corner became known as Swedlunda or Svedland. Svedland became affiliated with the Swedish Augustana Synod in 1874 and eventually changed their name to Augustana Lutheran Church of Lake Eunice. Augustana is now associated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. The building itself was constructed in 1886 on a hill overlooking a beautiful lake. There have been some wonderful additions and remodels added through the years to enhance the original structure. Throughout it's many years, the members of Augustana have found it most beneficial to partner with neighboring congregations for pastoral services. This allows them to remain a steady presence in their community while maintaining the family feeling of a rural country church. Visitors will find warm hospitality and a laid back atmosphere that will transport them back in time. Augustana strives to always honer it's traditions and history and continues to be a radiating center for God's blessings in the community and a warm inviting center for worship.
